  • Well the almshouse in Florida is well under way, 4-5 hour

Voting lines over the weekend, a bomb scare at a polling station in Orlando, lawsuits being filed to keep voting stations open.

A disgrace for a country that sees itself as the model for democracy around the world.

    Wonder what Tuesday will bring.

well it is not a democracy to begin with, the PEOPLE do not elect the president, the electoral college does AND one can win the popular vote but lose the presidency undermining the "one man one vote" theme of the democracy.

That is no different than Jamaica though, where you can lose the popular vote and still win the General elections via seat count. Busta did that in the earlies against Noman Manley.

The electoral college distribution broadly mirrors population size.

Or anywhere with our system I would presume.

One difference though, in the US System the individuals who represent the electoral college in the states could actually decide to go against the state vote and cast their vote differently. Now that to me makes no sense. Probably will never happen in practice though, at least I hope so.

...so do we have democracy in Jamaica?
Certainly the math makes winning our election and losing the popular vote possible? Right?

One could argue that it is "more democratic" because it is an association of independent states who have opted into the republic. Each state maintains a level of independence with its own laws and system of government. For a small state in this union of independent states, the electoral college assures that they won't be marginalised by the more populous states.
