Backhoe Beemer blunder

OH, DEERE: This BMW was smashed on Bleecker Street by the John Deere backhoe.
This massive backhoe couldn’t have picked a worse place to conk out — on top of a parked BMW!
The heavy-duty piece of construction equipment lost battery power over the weekend, and ended up in back of, above and in front of the vehicle on Bleecker Street just east of Mott Street.
A construction worker finally moved the John Deere machine yesterday morning, telling The Post that its battery ran down by “accident.”
The hard hat took about five minutes to juice up the backhoe with a generator before pulling away.
The backhoe’s bucket left two big, fist-sized dents in the Beemer’s front hood.
“It was just an accident,” the worker said.
The earth mover belongs to John P. Picone Inc., a Long Island contractor that had been dispatched to fix a nearby city water main.
A JPP rep said the company will pay for the damage to the car, but did not admit fault.
“I have an operator who said the car wasn’t there when he left it, and a driver who said the excavator wasn’t there when he parked it,” said company Vice President Robert Wessels.
Well a picture does not lie
“The car’s owner has already been in contact with our insurance, with our risk manager. We’ve agreed to get his car repaired. We’re paying for it.”
The car is owned by Dr. Thomas Canty, an anesthesiologist who lives across the street from where his BMW had become trapped.
Canty declined to comment yesterday afternoon — when he finally moved his dented wheels and drove away.
