First, you guys (administrator and/or moderators) banned Sickko forever from posting on this message board, and now you guys are bigging him up, knowing that he can’t respond, and that he’s probably still too angry to even visit this forum!
Boy, I tell you…. My people are something else.
( P.S. Karl, my friend, this is NOT necessarily directed towards you. I know you are a good person, and someone whom I’ve grown to respect highly over the past several years . I just linked this comment to the first moderator I saw, which just happened to be you. )
who is confused now ? tsk tsk.
you stepped into this one big time !!
Sunday, August 28th, 2011. We will never forget !!
I kind of hate to see the carry-goh-bring-come and finger pointing being carried out by a man like Historian. He does not have the facts, but before he ask what or why Sickko was banned, he makes assumptions and start singling out people. I don't subscribe to that type of slackness, so not being in on the joke, I decided to nip such infantile behavior in the bud. There is no place for behavior like that, especially from grown men.
"Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance." ~ Kahlil Gibran
Well, I guess Historian is technically correct. It's just that Sickko was not banned in the way we plan to ban Brickie in the near future. And it came across as that.
We moderators do get beat up about what we do on this forum, and even what we DON'T do!
Well, he could have asked if he wanted to know what was the situation with Sickko. It is totally irresponsible of him to try start trouble when he does not have the facts.
I guess I was just a bit annoyed by his post. . .

Tilla, I appreciate you taking the time to explain, and I now fully understand what transpired.
However, for the life of me I cannot understand the apparent anger and unnecessary asides in your second post (your reference to “grown men,” etc.)! The word “banned,” as even a child will attest, has ominous overtones! No amount of euphemistic efforts and condemnations of Historian on the part of you or Mosiah will change BOTH the denotation (that is, dictionary meaning) and the connotation (the idea suggested by the word) of the word “banned”!
Do I need to post a lecture here on “diction”(word choice)? Believe me, I can do so at a moment’s notice! Surely, you and your team could have come up with an alternative verb to “banned! With a little creativity on the part of you and your team, you could have devised one or two neutral verbs.
When all is said and done, the fact is that I do NOT know Sickko on a personal basis, I have never ever spoken to him (or anyone else on this forum for that matter), and I have no direct means of contacting him. Why should I?
Although I appreciate you taking the time to explain, in the final analysis my comments yesterday were not made out of any personal concern why he was banned (it is really not my business), but rather, just an observation after reading the posts and recalling what I SAW repeatedly beside his username.
(PS, Mosiah, there is no earthly reason for you to be disappointed, as like most people I cannot read minds. I made my remark yesterday because it is a FACT that I saw the word “banned” beside his name every time I came across it in the Archives.)
Communication can be a problem, as we have seen so often in Jamaica and elsewhere, but the comments aimed at me in this thread border on the ridiculous!!
the context is important. especially the statement about bigging him after being the ones to ban him. the unsaid word here is hypocrite.
the fact of what happened completely removes that line of thinking and making the connection that you did. communication is a problem, but rushing to judgment is also a problem...reference mob killings.
no amount of definition of "banned' changes that conversation. you made an assumption and you were way off base.

I’m not going to prolong this conversation except to say this: Think about the meaning (denotation) ANDimagery (connotation) conjured by the word “banned”!
After you have done thinking about the poor word choice made by the creators of this forum, you will hopefully see that the problem here is laziness as far as the English language and communication are concerned. How difficult can it be to formulate a neutral verb?
“Banning” someone is a drastic step, and no matter how you try to spin it, Gamma, you people were careless with diction here! That word is extreme; it is, in a sense, an ultimate word, and you of all persons should know that!
Now, do not ever lecture me again on the use and interpretation of the English language!
I must say I agree on this one...based on my limited information and the recent posts....it's the problem with the internet...posts are often misconstrued due to lack of nuances of speech, intonation and plain face to face...

well that is the whole story. I have nothing against the man and his work but the record is there to show. If I said anything else it would be hypocritical.
Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.
