The other point is deeper than Romney its the soul of the republican party,e.g Sass with his facts that there is a majority or strong national support that wish to repeal Obama polices is an illusion. The neo conservatives lost out in the republican presidential primary to a rich out of touch moderate flip flopper,so where do they go after the election?

The conservatives are definetly weaked to the point of seeking to being more moderate or starting a 3rd party but there sway over the republican party have definetly lost its vice grip.

watered down by teabaggers as bill mahr calls them ....

when everyone was jumping up and down at the mid-term about the influence of the teabaggers i just smiled because they are such a fringe group with such nuts as bachmann and oconnell, that it was only a matter of time before it caused the republicans not only to cannibalise but ALSO it put them squarely within the spotlight in congress and showed that they HAVE NO PLAN other than a culture of opposing the president. i wonder if that has worked out well for them...

A white Republican junior executive at work says that some of the anti-Obama sentiment is racism. To him, Obama has an OK track record and he blames his own Reps for being obstructionist and being more intent on defeating Obama than doing right for America.

He laments for the Reps, as the demographics are moving against them, for ex. increasing immigration in Texas means that in a few years, they will lose that key stronghold. He is not sure how to get rid of the wingnuts and laments the fact that Obama is more like Reagan than Romney is!

When asked where the Rep intelligensia is, he says they have been marginalized and the good ones dont want to enter the fray, as they dont want to be tarred and feathered in this kinda environment.

But they have NOT disappeared though, they have now got into the mainstream of the Republican party and that is exactly the problem they and Romney have, they have pulled the party way to far to the right. They lost at least 2 Senate races in 2010 because they kicked out the moderate and replaced with an extremist.

People like Jeb Bush see it and have been saying it, the party is on a suicide mission unless they change course. You can't alienate so many demographic groups and expect to be a national party.

That is what I have been wondering too. The problem they have is that the far right say the moderates always lose: Dole, McCain. Romney is a moderate pretending to be a born again extremist, which is the worst of both worlds.

I don't think the moderates will gain some power in the RNC until they lose a few more elections at the other levels, like congress and most of the governorships which they still dominate. The fact is there are not too many moderates left in the party so it will take a while.
