    When the court receives proof that the fines are settled, Deputy Chief Magistrate Carolita Bethel advised the women to seek an honest living in their own country.
    And what's so dishonest about their line of work, your honour?!?

        Hope this helps you with your question.

              Their core business is stripping...ie 'their line of work' that Mosiah is suggesting is not dishonest work. The other stuff is just peripeheral...or a 'side business' or 'another income stream'.

                Historian is having some challenges with the term "line of work". I believe you have cleared it up for him, Exile.

                Thanks!

                  Exile, both you and Mosiah are maybe being somewhat disingenuous here.

                  Why have you chosen to interpret the magistrate’s advice for“honest living” as being a comment on their particular job of stripping AND prostitution?

                  Let’s look at the facts and see if these ladies were earninga “honest living.” According to the reports, these ladies were:

                  1. Making a living while being in the country illegally;

                  2. Working without the proper documents as required by law.

                  One doesn’t just venture into other people’s country and start earning a living without a work permit, regardless of the job! Then, add to this their decision overstay their time by fraudulent means (“all of the women had at some point obtained fraudulent extension of stay stamps”) and we have what I consider to be a serious matter.

                  They are damn lucky to have gotten off so lightly!!

                      Tell that to the millions of Jamaicans in the US....many of whom started off or their parents:

                      1. Making a living while being in the country illegally;

                      2. Working without the proper documents as required by law.

                      I guess, strippers are way down on the line....ah boy...

                        Historian,

                        I understand YOUR point and I also understand Mosiah's: pretend for a moment the ladies were Bahamian (and in the Bahamas), and had been arrested and the judge had made the same comment...

                              But Peter, my friend, I doubt very much if that judge would have made the same statements if the ladies were Bahamians!! (Maybe it would have been made to the club owners if they were operating without a license.)

                              Why have you gentlemen developed the mindset that the judge was referring to the Jamaican ladies’ occupation? To me, she was speaking abouttheir dishonesty, and I fully AGREE with the judge!

                              Using fraudulent papers to perpetuate overstaying their time in a foreign country, and working illegally at the same time (that is, without a work permit) is a felony in most countries! We can twist the circumstances as much as we like, but what those women were doing was illegal in more ways than one!

                              Like I said, they are damn lucky to get off with a slap on the wrist!

                              By the way, I notice that Exile has changed the argument and is now defending illegal immigration in North America. In my case, I’m now finished with this topic as it has been exhausted!
