Accused rapist Duane Portman Sr., 44, was shot in the face by his alleged victim.

An Ohio man accused of raping a woman at gunpoint appeared in court wearing a bandage over his right eye — an injury suffered after police say the woman shot him in the face before escaping.

Alleged attacker Duane Portman Sr. pleaded not guilty in Clark County court Friday and was held on a $50,000 bond, reported ABC affiliate WKEF in Dayton.

Portman, 44, is accused of kidnapping a woman and taking her to the Labelz 4 Less in Springfield, where he worked as a cleaner.

That’s where Portman allegedly held a gun to the woman’s head and raped her at around 3 a.m. on Sept. 2. But she was able to pry the weapon from him and fire at his face, WKEF said.

At that point, she fled and drove herself to a hospital in Dayton, according to CBS affiliate WHIO.

“I’m glad she’s safe and I guess he deserved what was coming to him,” Labelz 4 Less shopper Angela Bozarth told WKEF, adding, “I think I feel safe enough to come [to the store] during the day and I think with enough people around, it will be okay.”

WKEF first reported that Portman was shot twice in the face and drove himself to a Springfield hospital, where he seemed confused.

At the time, he was reportedly unable to tell police the circumstances surrounding the shooting. It wasn’t immediately clear how he and the woman knew one another.

Portman is due back in court Monday. An attorney for him couldn’t be reached for comment.

Such a pity there was not a third shot to his pecker.
