A micro-lending institution in St Catherine that is alleged to be affiliated with the infamous Clansman gang is now under investigation by the police for money laundering and other criminal activities, including the physical assault of clients.

The company is advertised to provide fast and efficient loans, boasting fast approval, no guarantor and no collateral among other attractive pull factors on its microfinance loans.

However, unprofessional, scam and robbery at the highest level are just some of comments that dissatisfied customers of the financial institution have used to describe their malcontent with the company on its interactive web page.

Information reaching THE STAR suggests that the company uses thugs to conduct background checks on its clients, and also to collect outstanding money from clients who fail to make payments on time.

Further allegations suggest that failure to pay, results in clients being beaten up and left battered and bruised by the thugs who also issue death threats before they leave clients' homes.

Maxine wrote: "The company and their workers are unprofessional, you are late with a payment and they call you and tell you all kinds of expletives. One friend told me he fell into difficulties in paying back and is some Spanish Town bad man they sent to his home who promise to hit him if by the week him cannot come up with a payment. People think twice about this place. Get the loan but anything can happen on your side and they find ur body bagged ...".

According to Pee: "The person they send to verify address look like a thief himself. No man, them need fi do better. Mi fraid a them".

Deputy Superintendent L. Bailey of the St Catherine South police confirmed that the company is under investigation for money laundering among a number of other alleged criminal offences.

According to the senior cop,"Some investigations are being done. An investigation team investigating financial companies that are run by alleged criminal enterprises is conducting probe."

The top cop added: "It will take some time as we want to make sure that when we move in, we crack down on all the players."

At the same time, he said he was unaware of the allegations of physical assault being meted out by a thug or thugs contracted by the company but assured that he would investigate.http://jamaica-star.com/thestar/20120903/news/
