<Although Beijing is proving to be the most commercial Games in history, the London Games could end up trumping the Chinese in the sponsorship stakes. Of all the sporting sponsorship deals in the world throughout 2007, the third most lucrative was the cheque that Adidas wrote to the London organising committee, with the German sportswear manufacturer paying an estimated £100 million over five years for their association with the 2012 Olympiad. That Olympic deal was beaten only on the money podium by the £200 million that Barclays bank announced they would pay over 20 years for the naming rights of the New Jersey Nets’ basketball arena, and the £150 million that Adidas will spend on their 10-year contract with the German football team.>
