  • Gun Charges Dropped Against Deputy Mayor

    Christopher Thomas, Gleaner Writer

The prosecution has dropped the gun charges against the deputy mayor of Montego Bay, Michael Troupe.

Troupe, along with his son Jevaughn, were arrested two weeks ago in a raid by members of the Lottery Scam Task Force.

They were subsequently charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

On July 26, the younger Troupe pleaded guilty to the firearm charges.

In court today, Jevaughn was sentenced to two years at hard labour on the firearm charge and fined $2 million for the charge of illegal possession of ammunition.

Troupe’s lawyer, Clayton Morgan says he was happy with the outcome.

“The prosecution to my mind has done the decent thing in withdrawing the indictment,” he said.

Morgan also said, it was sad that a man who has given so many years of service to his country had been carted off in the back of a vehicle and then the charges against him dropped.
