  • Obama is a wussy on Gun Control

Obama lacks the spine when it comes to being a proponent on the sale of assault weapons, which were banned in the US from 1994-2004.

as usual this issue rises only when there is an incident, it becomes a nine days wonder then hibernates agin until the next time.

now that they have pieced together the gun man's movements, actions and behaviour, it seems so obvious but who had all of this information? everyone only had snippets, he even bought the ammo from vaiors places etc .... while i am not a NRA advocate, it seems to me that the IMMEDIATE thing that can be done is for the sale of weopons to be monitored on a national database so that each time a purchase is made the name, address and descrition of the items are recorded in real time and so if mulitple purchases are made this is flagged.

this does not affect the right to bear arms (or even the right to wear a cut off sleeve wife beater tee shirt i.e the right to bare arms) but it is high time that this thing was monitored more efficiently. there is more than enough evidence to show that

It seems to me though that someone with that mindset was always going to do something crazy. Your suggestion about flagging multiple purchases could possibly unearth some of them before they act, so it is worth doing for that reason alone.

That type of checking would require legislation at the State or Federal level. Democrat & Republican politicians are frequently prostitutes of the NRA and on Sunday the Democratic Governor of Colorado said tougher gun laws would not have made a difference.

technically speaking it is not "tougher gun laws" per se, i would be amazed if even republicans do not admit that there should be some way to determine if a college students (or any one person) is stockpiling weapons to this extent in order to minimise these kinds of incidents which are occuring more and more frequently ... columbine was an aberration at the time, since then check out how ofetn it has happened.

in fact check out 20 years before and 20 years SINCE columbine ...

Tougher gun laws would make a difference in the regulation of assault weapons and Jason Alexander of "Seinfeld" fame echoed this thought.

"There is no excuse for the lack of regulation surrounding assault rifles, and that while stricter laws "will not prevent any tragedy," that "we certainly have done ourselves no good by allowing these particular weapons to be acquired freely by just about anyone."

I think that system is already in place. In Missouri, when you go to purchase firearm, you are put through a check which includes running you through the national database. Only when you are cleared, the dealer gets the go ahead to sell to you.

I think the problem with the system stems from the fact that it is looking to see if you have any criminal record. Once you do not have a criminal record, you are usually given the go ahead.

While I defend the right of the average citizen to be able to purchase and keep handguns for personal protection, I cannot understand why the sale and purchase of assault weapons is allowed. I think there should be a ban on assault weapons as it makes no sense to me.

I found it surprising that a crazy person could burst into the theater and start shooting people and no one inside was packing at the time to give him a taste of his medicine.

They had a metal detector at the entrance to the movie theater, he bought a ticket, propped one of the exits and returned with his weapons through the back of the theater.
