    Dr Lowe forges alliance with Chinese anti-cancer biotech firm
    Thursday, July 19, 2012

    RENOWNED Jamaican scientist Dr Henry Lowe is this morning scheduled to announce an alliance between his Bio-Tech R&D Institute and Chinese firm Anticancer Biotech (Beijing) in a continued push to introduce his nutraceutical products into the huge Chinese market.
    The announcement will be made at Dr Lowe's Eden Gardens complex on Lady Musgrave Road in Kingston and will be attended by Dr Meng Yang, general manager of Anticancer Biotech (Beijing), an international company dedicated to cancer and HIV/AIDS research and development for drug discovery.
    A news release from Dr Lowe's office said it was envisaged that this next major step by Bio-Tech would assist with the promotion and strengthening of science and technology for national development, as well as demonstrate how this partnership can enable the implementation of wealth creation through cancer drugs development and manufacturing for the local and international markets.
    Other expected objectives of this partnership are:
    * Collaboration on HIV/AIDS research and development drug discovery;
    * Transfer in vitro & in vivo molecular imaging technologies for reliable and high efficient preclinical study;
    * Technology transfer between Anticancer Biotech (Beijing) and Bio-Tech R&D Institute's cadre of young scientists and physicians;
    * Creation of research and development synergies with the Bio-Tech R&D Institute's established nutraceutical products infused with Chinese herbs for anti-cancer response and efficacy;
    * Leverage stem cell research knowledge and expertise, particularly in the area of product development of cosmeceuticals with particular emphasis on hair follicle research; and
    * Propose viable and implementable strategies to inform the systemisation of Bio-Tech R&D Institute's research and development model.
    Speaking with the Jamaica Observer yesterday, Dr Lowe, a past Observer Business Leader, said: "Science must be used to create innovation so that we can produce the best products and services, and create jobs and a sustainable future."
    Since its inception, Bio-Tech R&D has launched more than seven nutraceuticals, including its flagship product The Alpha Prostate Formula, a supplement with anti-cancer properties, as well as five medicinal herbal teas and tea blends.
    Renowned Jamaican doctor Professor Errol Morrison will deliver the keynote address at the launch.

    "It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

      A similar article was posted by Exile yesterday.

      There's trickle-down opportunities for local businessminded folks.

      Great opportunities exist for local folks to enter specialized farming.

      Meaning, plants like Aloe Vera and other plants used in producing Nutraceuticals and other formula ...can be grown. The growers can be a stable source of raw material for Bio-Tech Research Institute.

      [Or maybe the Chinese will come in and do it for the locals]

            The possibilities are endless; but 'we' are conditioned for outsiders to spear-head simple efforts.
