A prominent gynaecologist was on Wednesday charged for allegedly performing an abortion on a 12-year-old girl who, it is believed, was four months pregnant.
Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that the accused, Dr Lloyd Goldson, was charged by investigators attached to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse.
The incident reportedly happened on July 4. Allegations are that sometime after the procedure was carried out, the child developed complications and had to be hospitalised.
The matter was reported to the police, and following investigations the gynaecologist was arrested.
It is understood that Dr Goldson was granted station bail in the sum of $150,000. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 18.
In the meantime, the police informed THE WEEKEND STAR that the child's 32-year old mother is also facing charges of procuring abortion, cruelty to a child, and failure to make a report to the Children's Registry.
