  • My Boy Lollipop said on Olympics opening ceremony soundtrack

JAMAICAN Millie Small's smash hit My Boy Lollipop is listed on an 86-track playlist that is likely to make up the official soundtrack for the London Olympic Games opening ceremony, The Telegraph newspaper in England has reported.
According to The Telegraph, it obtained a leaked document of the playlist being compiled by English film director and producer Danny Boyle. However, Olympic officials would not confirm that the playlist would make up the official soundtrack.

"Boyle will be assisted in compiling the variety of songs, which include theme tunes to soaps as well as music from Disney films, into one soundtrack by DJ duo Underworld," The Telegraph story read.
"The most controversial choice on the playlist is the inclusion of the antimonarchist punk song God Save The Queen by the Sex Pistols. This is a bold decision by Boyle considering that the Queen will be at the ceremony to officially open London 2012 in front of an estimated global television audience of a billion," the newspaper report said.
An examination of the list published by The Telegraph shows Small as the only Jamaican act.
Among the big names on the list are Eric Clapton, The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Duran Duran, Eurythmics and ColdPlay.
Millie Small topped the British national chart with My Boy Lollipop in 1964, marking the dawn of a new era for Jamaican music and the Jamaican diaspora in England.
