The Ministry of National Security has signed a follow-on military cooperation agreement with the People's Republic of China, under which that country will provide military aid to Jamaica, valued at $136 million.
The new agreement, which was sealed in May 2012, includes the supply of uniforms, materials for uniforms, ballistic helmets, vests, boots and tents.
Details of the contract were outlined by minister with responsibility for information, Senator Sandrea Falconer, at a Jamaica House press briefing, on June 20.
The minister also said that Cabinet has approved travel for a five-member delegation to Cuba, led by Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Phillip Paulwell, for discussions on renewable energy, information and communication.
"During the visit, the delegation will explore opportunities for further collaboration between Jamaica and the Cubans. They will formalise a strategic partnership to promote the sustainable development of both the ICT and renewable energy sectors in Jamaica," Senator Falconer outlined.
Cabinet has also approved the official travel for minister of justice, Senator Mark Golding, to participate in the North Atlantic Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting, and for a visit to the Caribbean Court of Justice in Port of Spain, Trinidad. The visit will last from June 25 to 28.
