WESTERN BUREAU:
A tense calm is now hanging over Mount Salem, in St. James, following the killing of two men last night.
Residents said there was a horrifying gun-battle between rival gangs in the Crawford Street and Brunswick Lane areas of the community.
The dead men have been identified as 21-year-old Ryon Daley, of Crawford Street, and 19-year-old Kourie McIntosh, of Brunswick Lane.
Both men suffered multiple gun-shot wounds.
According to reports, about 3 a.m., residents were awoken by the sound of heavy gun-fire in an open area, which adjoins both streets.
When the shooting subsided, residents found the two bodies in different areas of the community.
The police were summoned and crime scene processed.
A large number of spent shells for M-16 and Ak-47 assault rifles, as well as and 9MM hand-guns littered a section of the community, where the battle was most intense.
Based on preliminary investigation, it is believed that the dispute, which has been simmering for some time, might be a fall-out between friends over proceeds of the infamous ‘Lotto Scam.’
