    WESTERN BUREAU:

A tense calm is now hanging over Mount Salem, in St. James, following the killing of two men last night.

Residents said there was a horrifying gun-battle between rival gangs in the Crawford Street and Brunswick Lane areas of the community.

The dead men have been identified as 21-year-old Ryon Daley, of Crawford Street, and 19-year-old Kourie McIntosh, of Brunswick Lane.

Both men suffered multiple gun-shot wounds.

According to reports, about 3 a.m., residents were awoken by the sound of heavy gun-fire in an open area, which adjoins both streets.

When the shooting subsided, residents found the two bodies in different areas of the community.

The police were summoned and crime scene processed.

A large number of spent shells for M-16 and Ak-47 assault rifles, as well as and 9MM hand-guns littered a section of the community, where the battle was most intense.

Based on preliminary investigation, it is believed that the dispute, which has been simmering for some time, might be a fall-out between friends over proceeds of the infamous ‘Lotto Scam.’

Police frequently will kill known gunmen, and for the most part I do not have a problem with that in light of the garbage criminal justice system where criminal charges are often dropped for mass murderers.

However, too often we see out of control cops killing innocent persons who cross them. Kentucky Kid was likely killed by the JCF after he filed a report that the cops attacked him and his pregnant girlfriend.

It's interesting to note that since the export of a certain bewigged Don Jamaica's murder rate has plummeted about 25%-30% and murders of policemen are now relatively rare...coming from roughly 1/month

Then again let's not buy into the Don "hype" aka propaganda

you don't have to cross them. If them consider a "nodody" or "worthless bwoy" you have to watch your step.

Wanton police killings are both an atrocity and totally ineffective as a crime fighting tool. Although it gives many people a (false) sense of justice or retribution it is myopic to support such atrocities.

Jamaica has virtually the world's highest rate of police killings and among the world's highest incidence of murder..... that is conclusive proof that this atrocity does not work,

Given the Jamaican mentality, extrajudicial killings further undermine the justice system and encourage street justice and even more brutality from criminals who see themselves as "born fi dead" or having nothing to live for.

In other words such police atrocities are NOT a viable part of any sensible solution to violent crime and further... extrajudicial killings are actually a fundamental part of the crime problem

Jamaica needs to dismantle the JCF and merge it into one organization for crime fighting. The JCF is corrupt at the core and lacks the trust and respect of the population. We lack the forward thinking and out of the box approach to fighting crime.

                      No problem with that

But the police need to stop killing people for no good reason...the more they have public support and cover for that atrocity is the more likely it is to continue
