  • US to lift visa restrictions to improve tourist arrivals

    WESTERN BUREAU:
US President Barack Obama says his administration is moving to relax the requirements for applicants of tourist visas to the United States of America, and is targeting the Chinese and Brazilian markets to improve its tourist arrivals.

"Tourism is the number one service we export and that is because we have a great product to sell," he said via video conference to those in attendance at the Caribbean Tourism Summit and Outlook Seminar 2012 being held at the Ritz Carlton Golf and Spa Resort in Montego Bay.

"Every year tens of millions of visitors come to places like the Grand Canyon and Disney World, they rent cars, stay in hotels and check out the sites, they add billions of dollars to our economy."

"I want more of these tourists to come visit, I want America to be the top tourist destination in the world," he continued, "earlier this year we joined with business leaders to find better ways to market our tourist destinations and to make sure foreign visitors get the information they need."

"We are also protecting our borders, while trying to make it easier for tourists from more countries to visit without a visa, and we are speeding up visa processing in countries like China and Brazil so more people can come and spend their money here," he said.

Good move. I will welcome this.
    • Don't let negative things break you, instead let it be your strength, your reason for growth. Life is for living and I won't spend my life feeling cheated and downtrodden.
