  • Sprit Airlines up fees for carry-on bags from $45US to $100

Spirit Airlines which flies to several destinations including Jamaica is upping fees again for carry-on bags.
This includes a jump from 45 to 100 US dollars for passengers who wait to pay for bags at the boarding gate.
Spirit is imposing the fees on November 6.
It has said that it wants to persuade customers to check bags in cargo and to make arrangements on-line before arriving at the airport.
Spirit charges for any carry-on in an overhead compartment.
Some in Spirit's $9 Fare Club also will see increases.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

Stopped flying Spirit long time...after they cancelled my flight and no other airline would honour their ticket and the taxi man wouldn't accept their voucher to take me home...

Mi use to fly it to Jamaica but with the long wait in Florida and now this, they are making it worst.

Not missing anything at all, not a great airline only that sometimes they had good specials.

Are they charging $100 for carry-on?? I wouldn't think so but that's what the title line says... then the article says the $100 is for checked bags not checked in by internet, correct? a little unclear to me...

Spirit flirted with T&T but dumped the route after a few months ... I flew them from FLA to detroit back in 04 and it was a great savings as I had my two yutes with me... the savings allowed for a car rental for two weeks ... I also used them from Fla to T&T when they were flying here after I got stranded in Toronto after a charter airline , Zoom*, folded the day before I was to return to T&T... took a West Jet to Fla then Spirit down... I joined the $9 club but opted out when they gave up the route... if your time is flexible and you travel light you can save a fair bit I would say... it's a question of what you want as a passenger.

            * shouda nevah flown an airline with a name like that
