'Go For Gold' In Supreme Raffle

The recently formed Supreme Ventures Foundation (SVF), in association with Supreme Ventures Limited, yesterday announced details of a new initiative called 'Go for Gold', a raffle geared towards raising $30m for Jamaica's athletes as they prepare for this summer's Olympic Games in London.
The electronic raffle, the first of its kind in Jamaica, will get under way on of April 23 through to May 26, each ticket costing $300.
Dr David McBean, chairman of the Supreme Ventures Foundation, hailed the project as an opportunity for the company to continue its association with athletics and helping to ensure that Jamaica continues to be the world's sprint factory.
"We at Supreme Ventures hope that our contributions will help to build a lasting legacy," Dr McBean said at the event's launch at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel yesterday.
"We are currently in a golden age of track and field and we need to ensure that we support our associations. We are doing a part in building and helping to sustain that legacy," he added.
While not yet able to put a figure on the total amount that it will cost the nation to send a team to the 30th Olympiad, with pre-Olympic training camps, food and medical care among a long list of items to pay for, Mike Fennell, president of the Jamaica Olympic Association (JOA), was appreciative of the gesture from the betting conglomerate. In the same breath, Fennell encouraged all Jamaicans to go out and support the venture.
"I do not know how anyone could not buy a raffle ticket. When you buy a raffle ticket you will be supporting the athlete and are directly linked to the performance of the team in London," Fennell said.
"This is a fantastic project and a fantastic opportunity. Supreme Ventures has come up with a tremendous way that supports the JOA with our project and to be directly involved with the team."
Five raffle books
Lasting over a five-week period, there will be five raffle books issued with a winner every week. As such, only a limited number of tickets will be available. Seven lucky winners of the Gold Medal Package will find themselves with tickets for two to the London Games, accommodation and £500 spending money. The Silver Medal Package will be awarded to 35 winners and consists of 46-inch LCD television sets, a home theatre system, in addition to $100,000 cash. The Bronze Medal Package will be won by 63 winners and comprises a 40-inch LCD television set and $50,000.
Fourth and fifth-place winners will receive $30,000 (98 winners) and $15,000 (224 winners).
The draw will take place on Wednesday of every week and participants will have a maximum of 15 days to claim their prizes. Tickets can be purchased at any Supreme Ventures outlet islandwide.
