  • Embryology of a welfare corporation.

Over the last 50 years the taxpayers of the Caribbean in general, and Jamaica in particular have been unfairly burdened, due to our system of crony capitalism, by the expenses of failing privately owned companies and greedy "privateers", who either dependede on the financial bailout with our hard-earned pennies, or by undeserved protection against what would be considered competition in a true capitalist system. Yes, I am indeed speaking of Redjet, the owner of which wants the people of the Caribbean to bail his failing company out. Now, here is a guy who comes from outside the region, not that I would have any greater sympathy for him if he was from the region, who really thinks that we are still as stupid as we were immediately after independence. We should sure have learned our lessons from Stewart's Air Jamaica, Digicel, Cable and Wireless, D and G/Red Stripe and I could go on and on with a long list of companies that have benefitted form protection/bail out by one corrupt administration after another throughout the entire region. Hopefully the people will speak up and let this embryo die a natural intrauterine death thus avoiding the need for a painful abortion.

the fact is some of the taxpayers are over burden. Many people who should pay tax or not whether by design or beating the system.

Many of the lawyers and doctors and businesses have gotten away plus the ghetto ites. Many need to pay there fair share still.

On the subject of red jet, not one cent. Why did we get rid of Air J. if we going to invest in another airline?

It all goes back to post 1838 a.d. when the plantation masters demanded compensation for the loss of slaves (who equaled profits). At the same time many slaves were still forced to work the land for free. This happened over a period of time.

The core concept of having a colony is to put in little whilst gaining the maximum. You will see this theme playing out in Ja over and over. This also contributes to the social ills of the island. Why is the Jakan tax dollars providing capital for the service industry? Why can't the civil servants (namely police, nurse, teachers and firemen) offered shares in these entities? I know this would kill corruption in the force. Why should tax payers' dollars be used to bail out every single to bail out all these businesses? There is the claim that 40K businesses went under. If 40K businesses were operating in Ja (a nation under 3mil in population) then unemployment figures would be in the single digits. It only means that one person can set up a ghost business then failit it then make projections and ask the govt. for money (same as in the days of slavery).

Instead we see the same names popping up to buy these entities in the service industry. So much money is being made in that sector, it's now being given to others from divers places. In Ja you have lawyers, economists, and other professionals yet they cannot own a damn thing of significance in the industry.

JA NEEDS A CIVIL RIGHTS BILL.

Well said Jawge. Black people own the degrees and the"white" man makes the money. I have never seen such a small country with so many doctorates. If all these PhDs are real, we may ahve some hope down the road.

Isn't that an irony Reggaedoc? The issue of so many Doctor this and Doctor that. The (d=m/v) of PhD's in Jamaica is quite fascinating.

Another irony is that irrespective of this level of "education"...the island remains backwards in lots of developmental issues...including the one being discussed.

Very ironic. Either noboby is paying any attention to what they say, or they are just saying a lotb of nonsense. Either way the results seem to be the same.
