NEXT month, South Floridabased reggae singer, Sharpe intends to visit Jamaica for a week to connect musically with his homeland.
His single Money Right is receiving a fair amount of airplay on local radio and he hopes his newest effort, Biz, enjoys similar success.
The artiste, whose real name is Oketto Chambers, says while in Jamaica he plans to “do some serious marketing and promotion”.
“Things are much more difficult in Jamaica since I do not live there. However, with help from radio jocks and others who genuinely believe in what I am doing, it has made the transition to becoming a successful artiste in Jamaica much easier,” said the artiste, who migrated after leaving high school in 1999.
Sharpe also intends to shoot part of his video for Biz in the island.
“I am looking to incorporate a few scenes from Jamaica to give it that authentic homeland feel. I hope to do that while I am visiting Jamaica this time,” he said. The video will be shot by Miami-based Regulus Film.
“Frequent trips to Jamaica is critical. I am hoping to make more new media connections on this trip. I do a lot of work on social network sites like Facebook and Twitter but nothing beats that one-on-one contact, which is why I am heading to Jamaica again,” he said, adding that his ultimate goal is to make it to the Reggae Sumfest stage.
A fan of singer Eddie Fitzroy, Sharpe is hoping for a collab with him.
“I have been talking to him but nothing has been finalised as yet. Fact is that I’ve always been a big fan of Eddie for a very long time. He is an extremely talented singer and someone that I admire a lot. I have a particular song of his which I’ve experienced. I like the message of the song and just want to bring that song back to the forefront,” he said.
