Selector Biggy of the duo Razz and Biggy claims that the men who attacked him at a show on Sunday were members of Deejay Vybz Kartel's entourage and not his fans.
This follows a publication in The STAR dated Tuesday, February 27, where it was reported that fans of deejay Vybz Kartel had attacked Biggy of Razz and Biggy for playing too many of Mavado songs.
The two deejays have been in an ongoing musical feud which has caused communities to be divided and artistes and selectors to be attacked.
"A nuh fans, di yout dem come deh wid Kartel, an him (Kartel) himself did deh pon di beach. A right after mi done play, not even five minutes, dem rush mi," Biggy said.
Razz, his selecting partner, was however spared as Biggy says, "Razz was not at the spot when it happened because he was still packing up the computer, because di party did still a gwaan."
However, in the previous article Kartel said he heard about the incident from someone in the (selecting) Bembe Squad. He says the person told him, "That Razz was assaulted by unknown persons who demand he play more Kartel because he was in Kartel town. These incidents make progress go two steps forward and three steps back and will not be tolerated in the least."
Take a stand
Biggy says selectors need to take a stand, as artistes want to dictate what they play.
"Me as a selector weh a play music, it cyan guh suh. When a selecta a play in a party, wi nah pick nuh side, mi not even did play di song dem weh dem (Mavado and Kartel) a dis dem one another.
But yuh cyan a tell a selecta wah fi play, wi play wah wi feel di crowd wi like, but some a dem artiste yah waan tell selecta wah fi play. Right now, nuh selecta nuh feel safe, cause dem a feel seh dem a guh come dis dem to. An me an Kartel dem nuh have nutt'n, suh mi waan know," he said.
No More Kartel Songs
Biggy says, "right now, mi nuh si mi self a play another Kartel tune, sum'n haffi guh happen fi mek me feel like fi play another Kartel tune. An other selecta a plan fi tek di same action."
Other selectors have also found themselves in similar situations as Hotta Ball, who is associated with Beenie Man was also attacked and accused of playing songs that dissed Bounty Killer. Another selector, Foota Hype, aligned to the Alliance, was also sent death threats recently.
Hotta Ball says though he was attacked by Bounty Killer fans, he still plays his songs. "The music is bigger than everybody. The fans need to back off and not take it personal. Look what happened to me, but I still play Bounty. If him have a hit song I have to play it. People need to compromise," he said.
He also spoke on the issue of playing too many of one artiste's songs: "The selectors need to give everybody a fair chance. You can't be playing one set of artistes; from the song good, just play it because that's what you do, select." </DIV>
