The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) has shown members of the media video footage depicting the rowdy conduct of inmates at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre in St Andrew.
The 15-minute footage shows inmates throwing faeces and other refuse at soldiers manning the prison.
In one case, an inmate is captured dousing himself and daring soldiers to come and remove him from his cell.
In another case, an inmate clasps his arms around the prison bar and dares soldiers to come and remove him.
The video also captures images of inmates directing verbal insults at soldiers and attempting to destroy the security cameras.
Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant Colonel Sean Prendergast says this was just an indication of the circumstances under which his staff works.
Five inmates have filed complaints with the court alleging abuse by JDF soldiers.
They are reputed gang leaders Tesha Miller and Joel Andem; gang member Christopher Linton; Kevin Tyndale alias Richie Poo and Michael McLean.
The complaints were filed days before The Gleaner reported that Leighton ‘Livity’ Coke, the brother of Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke, had been allegedly beaten by soldiers in prison.
