A gay couple who police say got involved in a domestic dispute which resulted in one of them being doused with caustic soda and the other allegedly taking out his anger on $500,000 worth of household property were both freed from criminal charges in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court after their matter was dismissed, on their request.
Andre Saunders and Kitto Miller, both businessmen from Chancery Hall in St Andrew, were recently arrested and charged following a dispute at their home where it was alleged that Saunders threw caustic soda on Miller, causing burns to his head and back of his hand, while Miller during his rage destroyed five doors, a plasma TV and other items.
According to the investigating officer, the dispute arose after Saunders returned from an overseas trip and was informed that Miller had taken another male lover to his house which angered Saunders, and allegedly resulted in a confrontation with Miller.
During the confrontation the alleged informer was attacked and injured by Miller, who was subsequently charged with wounding with intent and malicious destruction of property, while Saunders was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
When the matter came up in court Wednesday Saunders told the court that he had not purposefully harmed Miller. "It's an accident," he said, while explaining further that Miller had approached him with a machete. Miller, for his part, told the court that his anger had led him to damage the goods.
Both accused, after admitting to their crimes, told the court that they did no want to go any further with the matter.
"Well if you two have decided not to continue who am I to intervene into this domestic matter," Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said before agreeing to grant them their wish.
