PM calls on Police Commissioner to investigate statement from Opposition leader
Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller wants the police should investigate a recent statement by Opposition Leader Andrew Holness that the government has contributed to the recent spike in crime.
The Prime Minister was speaking Saturday at a function at Jamaica College .
"I want to give you all an example about the difference between the PNP leadership and the leadership of the other party, when we were in power we stood up for the people of Jamaica , we never sent bad signals to the international community and I was shocked to hear that the leader of the opposition say that the government is turning up the crime. I believe the Commissioner of Police should have gone to meet with him to ask him to indicate and give the names of those in the government (who are) turning up the crime" she said.
Opposition leader Andrew Holness criticised the new PNP administration for allowing some things, including crime, to slip out of control.
Mr Holness made the comment while addressing a generation 2000 forum at the University of Technology more than a week ago.
