Minister of National Security Peter Bunting says the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s drive to reduce crime to levels comparable to developed countries, could have a significant impact on the growth prospects of the country.
Bunting said executives from the Planning Institute of Jamaica, told the Cabinet Retreat on the weekend that the major impediments of growth in Jamaica were crime and corruption.
He was speaking this morning at the opening ceremony, for the destruction of small arms and light weapons at the Police Armoury on Ellettson Road in Kingston.
At least 1,248 firearms retrieved by the JCF and 655 from the Firearm Licensing Authorities will be destroyed at the Caribbean Cement Company in Kingston today.
