Assamba Heads To UK High Commission

WESTERN BUREAU:
Former Tourism Minister Aloun Assamba has been chosen to become Jamaica's new high commissioner to London in the United Kingdom, The Gleaner has learnt.
Assamba is slated to take up the post in April, replacing Anthony Johnson who took office under the Jamaica Labour Party.
The incoming high commissioner has served both the public and private sectors and has been extensively involved in non-governmental organisations. She also served the voluntary sector through her work with United Way of Jamaica, the Jamaica Cancer Society, the Jamaican Bar Association, the Dispute Resolution Foundation of Jamaica, Association of Development Agencies, Women's Leadership Initiative, various school boards, and many other organisations.
A former parliamentarian, she had a number of ministerial responsibilities during the period 2002-2007, such as minister of tourism, entertainment and culture; minister of industry and tourism, and minister of state in the ministry of industry, commerce and technology.
Prior to her parliamentary attachments, Assamba was general manager of COK Co-operative Credit Union Limited from 1994 to 2002. She also served in several other key positions throughout her 14-year tenure with that organisation.
Assamba is an attorney-at-law and mediator in private practice. She taught law at the Mona School of Business to MBA candidates and teaches alternative dispute resolution at the Norman Manley Law School.
