  • More opposition to horse racing on Sundays

The Jamaica Union Conference of Seventh Day Adventists says it will not allow Sunday horse racing or gambling on any particular day to deter it from its evangelistic mission.
The Jamaica Council of Churches (JCC), in a release, urged the government not to yield to pressure for horse racing on a Sunday or to allow Off-Track Betting stations and related entities to open their doors on that day.
In the release, the JCC also reiterated its position that gambling, in general, is immoral.
In an interview with RJR News yesterday, the Jamaica Union Conference of Seventh Day Adventists made it clear that it does not condone gambling in any form on any day.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)
