NASSAU, Bahamas: Jamaica has topped the region again by copping Expedia's number one destination partner award.

The news was revealed on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the Caribbean Marketplace in Nassau, Bahamas over the weekend.

The country shares the limelight with one of the island's most beautiful Spanish resort - Iberostar.

When I said that Jamaica was doing better in tourism than our neighbours, people were skeptical, but unno nuh see seh the big big Atlantis resort in Nassau on the verge of closing down! Mi nuh hear bout any such thing in Jamaica.

If Wykeham McNeil smart, him fi guh huddle with Bartlet and make sure the handover is smooth and effective and ask bartlett for his cell number so he can put it on speed dial! The incentive for Bartlett is that if he ever gets back in, he will be handed a robust tourism sector.

The discussion was not about doing "better" .... it was about the underlying reasons for maintaining growth...even the low levels that we're experiencing

While Bartlett did a creditable job as a tourism booster, the underlying reasons for maintaining a modest growth had little to do with Bartlett. The underpinnings were in a vastly expanded product. The recent and huge product upgrade is the reason for Jamaica being competitive in the market.

Bartlett would have had too little time in office to have had much of an impact, except at the margins... unless he engineered a significant increase in the marketing spend... or better results from that budget.

There is no evidence that this is the case....ergo...no evidence of his supposed responsibility for the relative success... his tenure happened to coincide with the positive impact of a huge product upgrade.

Critical analysis is called for...not simplistic responses to cause & effect constructs. A guy like Lazie is incapable of or resistant to such analyses it appears

As dem say, the victors rewrite history. People somehow choose to forget the moves he made in targeting Canadians, South Americans and other regions when Americans were travelling less due to ...... the agreements that allowed more airlines to fly into the country.

The guy did a creditable job...but the beatification by Lazie, Sass & Co was clearly premature
