Good question. I notice Ja is only branded as communist and socialist when the people should benefit from their tax dollars. When the planter class (or those that hang around) do business it's tax payers' money that should finance the venture or bail them out if the venture fails. Their business aren't supposed to fail whilst you have these stupid people who should toil to pay for it.

Mi don't know the full details of dem operation and what if the gov't purchase a few under a demonstration program fi two years to check its reliability? The Turks & Caicos people seem to think it was a good buy.
Btw, most of the parts are made overseas and assembled (jobs) in Ja.

Job growth -> long term benefits of supporting a manufacturing industry in Ja, rather than importing a luxury vehicle

That is the very definition of 99% of Jamaica's capitalist class

That Crony Capitalist characteristic along with an ingrained Class Prejudice and a lack of INNOVATION (they're just a shade lol better than Haiti's crony elites) .. is the reason a private sector led strategy of development for Jamaica will FAIL... absent that myopic, backward & spiritually corrupt class being forced to reform itself.... something Manley tried to do...but in a foolish & counter-productive manner

Since they are assembled in Ja, then I would think that they could be configured to suit our needs. It would be a very good idea to use these as government and municipal vehicles. The other question is can they be mass produced by us?

Cost of goods if not mass produced will likely be prohibitive. We may save on cost of direct labour, but mistakes from an unskilled workforce may negate that.

Susidies and taxes can be used to overcome marketing deficiencies, but it seems and uphill struggle all the way. It seems that we would be better of putting focus on more obvious areas where we can definitely win.

Nuttin try, nuttin done. We should provide incentives to help them succeed, and not necessarily look for large western economic model approach for a small island business.
