RIM looking to Samsung for bailout?
    By Zack Whittaker | January 17, 2012, 9:22am PST

Summary: UPDATE 2: Samsung has announced publicly that it has not considered nor is it interested in buying RIM, according to Reuters.

    UPDATED: see below.

Reports are circulating that Research in Motion, only days after it hired Goldman Sachs to field potential buyout bids, is looking to Samsung as a potential buyer of its BlackBerry smartphone and tablet range.

A source speaking to BGR hints that Samsung could be the front-runner in a bailout of the BlackBerry maker.

Seeing as it’s clear that RIM is looking for an sell-off rather than digging its head further into the sand, the company at least is acknowledging the fact it is up the creek without a paddle.

This company is the poster child for how quickly you can rise and fall in the high-tech industry.

Not too many years ago they had the smartphone market lock down, and now they are willing to grab at any straw that floats by.

The rumour is Samsung is in the process of making an offer. The feeling up here is things started to go south when the co-Presidents decided to invest in sports franchises. Usually the kiss of death.

If they had offerered touch screen plus free over the air sync of address book and calendars and other data then they would stiil be the leader. You need a blackberry server to sync the blasted calendar over the air.

Yes the need for a blackberry server for sync-ing even after there were other options was a big blunder, I think.

Thier consumer market share would have been difficult to maintain regardless but they shouldn't have lost the business market as quickly as they did. Businesses are not quick to change out equipment like consumers so they had some time to do it.

That dont make sense... dont believe everything you read. Firstly Rim has loads of cash so they are not forced to sell nor are they owned by venture Capitalist. Yes there Market cap is shrinking but still they are making money. Not in America market which they want to but in Europe and Asia. If they wanted to sell it would be Microsoft or MS Nokia type partnership. Look to Rim licensing to other vendors before selling.

I dont think you understand Don1.... they still own the enterprise. They fail at the consumer end. There is a reason for this. While apple and android can simply make a device Rim as to reverse engineer to be compatible with the BES back end piece that was written 10 years prior... any way too much said.

only one did or try to.... Nothing to do with that.. iphone and android and the consume-ration of IT..... Its still a solid company... look for a big rebound.

The momemtum is going against them big time though OJ, even in the enterprise.

They missed a few beats somewhere along the way and me nuh know if they will be able to recover.

                            I understand the market.

They're losing market share rapidly and most app developers regard that platform as non-viable. No apps = No Growth.
The management is clueless. They are operating/introducing multiple operating systems simultaneously...madness

There is not much more I need to know than that
