  • Wisconsin: Citizens Score Direct Hit On Babylon

As I write, the group seeking to recall Republican scumbag Governor Scott Walker are delivering petitions to the state elections office in Madison which will force him to stand in a recall election which could force him out of office in a few months.

A raucous, but peaceful, crowd of about 3,000 people are in front of the elections office, called the Government Accountability Board. Volunteers wearing neon vests are holding the crowd back, and as people are taking boxes of paper off the truck, one by one, to loud cheers and applause.

The group organizing the petition drive says they have more than 1 million signatures, including mine, almost double the 540,000 required to force the election. When the petition drive was announced, a goal of 720,000 was set. Walker recieved 1.12 million votes (52.4 percent) when he was elected governor in 2010.

Recall petitions were also filed against Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and four Republican state senators. Republicans hold a 17-16 majority in the state Senate.

Good work! I am sure he and his cronies will fight it all the way by any means necessary, but the momentum is building for this to happen.

I'm surprised they got this far! When I heard of the move I figured they were wasting their time.

We have been talking about MP recall for years now but nothing even remotely in place...
BTW - how do verify signatures?

I am very surprised as well and you can never underestimate the power of the people.

I have signed petitions as well in the past, and they check for your name on the voters list. You need a lot more than the required signatures to account for errors of misspelling etc.

              Get him out,

BTW - how do verify signatures?

The Government Accountablity Board (GAB), which oversees elections, will enter the names, addresseses and phone numbers into a database, and check it against state records. The GAB is a non-partisan office.

Phony names (Adolf Hitler, Mickey Mouse, etc.) will be stricken. So will duplicate signatures. People made Facebook posts threatening to pose as phony petition gatherers, take signatures, and destroy the petitions.

The verification process is expected to take more than 30 days.

The database is public record. When all the petitions have been loaded into the database, Walker's people will then be given a period of time to examine the signatures and challenge any questionable signatures.

Kevin Kennedy, GAB director, said the review will be done in a secure area guarded by police, but expects to have a webcam online to provide a general view on the state government website. Nobody from either the petitioning side or Walker's side will be allowed into the area.

Live "look in" camera of workers in Madison, Wisconsin scanning the more than 300,000 pages of recall petitions into a PDF file database. You can see some of the boxes stacked up in the corner.

The actual signatures (including mine) cannot be shown at this time, but once the file is complete it becomes public record and accessible on the state government database.
