A teacher who reportedly accused her husband of fathering a bastard child — a story she cooked up in an attempt to claim half of his assets — is to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on February 21 for a preliminary hearing.
The accused, 55-year-old Marlene Johnson Davis, of Mineral Heights in May Pen, Clarendon, had her bail extended when she appeared before senior magistrate Judith Pusey last week.
She had previously pleaded not guilty to forgery, uttering forged documents, and conspiracy.
Allegations are that sometime in 2010, the teacher accused her husband of fathering a child outside of their marriage. The accusation reportedly caused the marriage to fall apart and on February 1, 2010, she took her husband to court and requested that property owned by him be sold in order for her to be paid alimony.
On July 5, 2011, she reportedly submitted a birth certificate in the name Nikoy Davis to the Supreme Court Registry claiming it to be that of the child, however, when checks were made at the Registrar General's Department, it was found out that the birth certificate was not authentic.
The matter was reported to the police and following investigations, the accused was arrested on December 15.
On the last occasion the court was told that since the accusations were made, the accused kicked the complainant out of his home, changed the locks to the property, and is now living with another man.
The accused is being represented by attorney Peter Champagnie
