  • On educating leaders

I found this TED presentation on African leadership quite interesting. Is this our fundamental problem as well?

He believes, as i do, that kind of thinking can be defeated with the education, if done the right way.

      OK cool.

As you would expect the issues he describes are quite similar to those we face. He is one who is trying to practice what he preaches though.

I agree with you. Jamaica's problem is one of poor leadership.... then the rot filters down.

It's not merely that the leaders make mistakes...that's to be expected. It's that they don't REALIZE that they're making mistakes and consequently cannot learn from it...so mistakes are repeated.

That and a stunning lack of vision, pervasive corruption & tribalism ...dooms us to persistent poverty

Nice presentation from the guy tho

Notice that this "rote memory" problem is a common theme in all former colonies? I said it here before that the rote memory system is a temp plate for creating bureaucrats. It's also a breeding ground for class-ism.

In order for JA to join stalwarts in the info age. Ja has to shake the idiocy of class-ism (which sprang from slavery and colonialism). This si just the first step via sweeping reform in the education system.

Our outdated and underfunded education system is certainly one of our large problems.

However you need to stop thinking in a linear fashion. One problem does not have to be completely solved before another is addressed.

There are many societies that make progress while stilll struggling to deal with thier class, race, ethnicity issues. Brazil and India are two of the rising economies in the world that are far from overcoming those problems.

Thinking in a linear fashion, you could argue thats the problem in all facets of our psyche?

                    Linear thinking.....deep!

It's not linear but more so being realistic. India has a population of 1.2 billion hence 30 million could be carrying the banner.

Brasil has 280 million so another five million or so could be carrying the nation for now ( the US could be caught in such a trap but vision with the civil rights bill corrected it).

Ja on the other hand has population of under 3 million people; here the effects of class-ism will be very glaring. It will also hinder growth in every aspect of the Jakan society.

Ja has to jump away from just copying other nations. No thought was put in the island's independence. JA just copied everything, only to find Trojan horses in the software.
