  • Crawford not expecting a ministerial post

With calls from some quarters that younger successful candidates should be drafted into the People’s National Party (PNP) Cabinet, one Member of Parliament elect is suggesting that this might not be possible.

Damion Crawford, a new entrant to representational politics, has sought to downplay any expectations that he will automatically be drafted in the cabinet.

Speaking on TVJ's Smile Jamaica, Mr. Crawford insisted that his first job is to his constituents.

“I already have a portfolio, the People’s Gladiator. The Prime Minister has the responsibility to look at all the things that are there, remember we have 42 people, it will be difficult for everyone to have something. So I am very much willing to not have something and go on and save the people,” Mr. Crawford said.

Mr. Crawford defeated the Jamaica Labour Party's Joan Gordon Webley and independent candidate Damion O. Crawford in last Thursday's General Election.

Meanwhile Mr. Crawford, who is one of the youngest elected parliamentarians, has responded to criticisms from youth groups that politicians have failed to engage them.

While acknowledging the role that political parties must play in reaching young people, Mr. Crawford also challenged the youth to do more to aid the process.

He argues that the youth must put Jamaica first.

“It's not only that they don’t vote, they don’t get involved, they don’t volunteer in school, they don’t volunteer in their communities, they are not a part of their community association and so it’s not just that they are disillusioned …you can’t be disillusioned with the country that you live in. the same people that say they are neither JLP or PNP, I am not Jamaican first, I am Jamaican only,” he said.

Spoken like a team man but I am sure that in two years time or so when Clovis' dinosaurs are been shuffle doff to the tar pits and he sees other youths getting promoted, he will want his promotion too

I am really impressed with this youth.
THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

He usually has very good proposals. Will be interesting to see how well he does in the long-term future when he gets a portfolio of some sort to deal with.

Sound like him singing for his supper. His last sentence rings true though.

He already has some business experience.

Not sure how well it is doing, but I admire the enterprise.

I think Damion should be given Youth Culture and Sports Ministry. If not the actual minister, then a state minister.
