A breakdown of figures of children, who have been reported missing since the start of the year, has led to an astonishing revelation.
More than 500 of them are still unaccounted for.
The figures are from the National Bureau of Investigation and the Children's lobby group, Hear the Children's Cry, revealed the breakdown of missing children in a table submitted with a release Tuesday morning [December 20].
The National Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that the figures were sourced from that agency, but stressed they are indicative as they still await final confirmations from police divisions.
The figures show that from January 1 to November 13, 1,808 were reported missing and of these, 1,278 are known to have returned home while four were confirmed to have died.
Of the 526 children still missing, 421 are girls while 105 are boys and of the boys, 17 are under 11 years old and 88 are between 12 and 17 years old.
Of the missing girls three are under 11 years old and 418 are between 12 and 17.
A breakdown of months where most of the children went missing shows June accounting for 168 females followed by October with 152.
In the male category, May and July accounted for 53, respectively.
Next in line was March which suggested that 45 were reported missing.
