OG.NR has obtained a press release by members of the Jamaica National Movement NY Inc., which has issued a petition to international human rights group Amnesty International, calling for pressure to be placed on the Jamaican Gov't to release surveillance video taken from 'Operation Garden Parish'.
The group says the tapes are being withheld from the Public Defender, following the revelation that the US State Department was involved in the operation.
See full Press Release below:
Members of the Jamaican Diaspora, represented by the Jamaica National Movement NY Inc., have submitted a petition to the human rights group ‘Amnesty International’ requesting support to pressure for the release of the Surveillance tape currently being withheld from the Public Defender. This is in light of the Jamaican Government’s initial denial of the US State Department’s involvement in the “Operation Garden Parish”, and the subsequent discovery of supporting evidence to the contrary.
The Jamaica National Movement also finds disturbing, reports that Dr. Herb Elliot, head of the Public Health Department is unaware of the locations and state of the bodies from the Tivoli Gardens incursion. This brings into sharp focus, reports from Independent Pathologist Dr. Michael Pollanen, that the autopsies are being carried out below the agreed standards. The Jamaican Diaspora is calling for the Minister of Security and/or the Public Defender to immediately update the country and our residents abroad.
Jamaica National Movement in New York Inc., is a community group that supports progressive organizations within the diaspora and in Jamaica.
