Did you miss the part about dual booting? I returned my computer to Apple for a ding in the case and they replaced it at no charge...never paid a cent for any damage to my Macbook Pro...never...who buys software anymore? c'mon dude...and their OS costs $20 us compared to hundreds of $$$ for Windoze OS upgrade...

we've discussed that here before... i will buy an ipad but mi still inclined to stay with my pc... i feel i can do more... the only problem is the attraction to virus issue... i still believe apple is more proactive in the virus fight than microsoft... microsoft needs to do more in the virus fight...

why would I buy a Mac to run windows on??? It is slower and doesn't work as well based on my experience. Try throwing a little water on it and try get it replaced or break the screen with any apple product and you will see.

You obviously have no experience dual booting Windoze on an Intel Mac...it actually runs faster and does not give you the dreaded blue screen of death like it does on a PC...I have had mine for 7 years...dropped it...cracked it...you name it...sent it off and got it back spanking...no charge...

Microsoft needs to do more but last year when I had a conference on Security with a US government expert I asked him about targeting MAC and he said the difference is that Microsoft is a huge target right now as they have a huge market and when they throw out a bigger net it catch more fish. He thinks the IPhone and IPad will be a bigger target than the MAC computer in the not so distant future.

There has been a few attacks on the Iphone already.

it is not that they are more proactive...........it is just that they are less popular

Up to two years the company I worked with, we had to cancel MAC contract for the reason of their lack of support on issues of Broken Glass and Spillage on computer. They simply tell you it is not covered and they have no coverage for this, and this is a huge contract.

Blue screen can be caused by hardware or software so you may not get any yet but you can also get that smiley face when you boot up your MAC, no big difference there. You maybe lucky but remember the big dell battery recall and how they used the same batteries in apple? Apple makes no hard drive, Intell makes the Chip and the Motherboards are made in Asia so what is the big difference? Quality control for some PC companies maybe an issue but that is about it because you have a lot more companies making PCs.

islandman was part of the discussion we had about the pc vs mac and the issue was raised that it was just the share volume mkt share why pcs were targeted more... i think it was mosiah who had a mac and was 'bragging' he didn't have to worry about viruses...

long and short of it, macs do get viruses, just not near as many as pc... the mac os sources code is more closely managed and that helps to prevent rogues from creating viruses as easy as they do for pcs... eventually, mac will be jus like pcs with viruses... well, i hope not...

A lot of the targetting is shared by these culprit so when a one man break the code, they share it with others and others change other things, The fact is there is a bigger network. And maybe as you say for now the source code for mac maybe harder to break and with low market share the reward may not justify it. IPhone getting very popular still and IPad so look out.

IN windows 8 Microsoft is trying a new security system with pictures and no password. It will be interesting to see how that work.

One of my PCs that I have been steadily upgrading & maintaining for 6 years had its third hard drive crash. When it came to getting a new computer, another PC was a no brainer. Significantly cheaper cost, I7 processor, 2 TB HD, 8 GB RAM, however my on-board soundcard is sh!tty and will be upgraded to work well will my powerful sub-woofer. The on-board graphics card is OK, but mi not running graphically intensive stuff, so an upgrade is not necessary.

That is a factor but I do not think its just that. It is also the closed nature of the platform and the way Apple operates. It is the reason the iphone is a more secure device than the android devices. look how them never like Adobe Flash so them bad up Adobe and tell dem fe dash whey dat and come again.

I do not expect Apple devices to ever have virus and security issues comparable to what Windows has had no matter thier market share.

Yep. Android phones are a security nightmare waiting to happen.
