Diaspora Calls for Transparency as #Tivoli Bodies and Tape still Remain Secret
OG.NR has received a release by members of the Diaspora which has weighed in on the Tivoli Incursion on May 2010.
President of the Jamaica National Movement in New York, Desmond Clarke is demanding that the Jamaican Government hand over tapes of the joint police/military incursion in Tivoli Garden’s to capture convicted gangster Christopher Coke following the release of verified statements from the article “A Massacre in Jamaica” by Mattathias Schwartz.
Mr. Clarke has called for transparency “so that the Jamaican people can be made aware of the happenings”.

    See Full Release below:

Bodies reportedly still remain undisturbed in the public morgue after 17 months of the celebrated incursion of Tivoli Gardens by joint military operations from the United States and Jamaica. The authorities went in search of Christopher Dudus Coke who now awaits prison sentence for many years or life in the United States of America.

The bloody invasion resulted in the loss of 73 lives in Jamaica who were all living in a community described as the “mother of all garrisons” in Jamaica. And the Diaspora group now understands that tapes exist that may answer serious questions of alleged state atrocities.

Members of the Jamaican Diaspora are calling on the Holness led Government to be transparent, demanding the release of tapes featuring the May 2010 incursion. Calls have come from President of the Jamaica National Movement in New York, Desmond Clarke.

The tapes carry startling accounts of an event grabbing deep interest both in Jamaica and abroad as onlookers gained insights into the joint police/military incursion. This mind-boggling event in Tivoli Garden’s which was hatched to capture Mr. Coke has been the focus of authors from across the globe including the verified statement from an article entitled, “A Massacre in Jamaica” by Mattathias Schwartz, an investigative journalist from the New Yorker (recorded interview attached).

According to Clarke, the authorities need to turn over the tapes they managed to have received from the US State Department to the Public Defender, and where possible to the media, in order that the Jamaican people will be in a position to become fully aware of exactly what took place during that eventful affair.

Clake has also expressed surprise that the Jamaican Prime Minister has exhibited inexplicable nonchalance against the background of the taping of “Operation Garden Parish”.

According to Clarke, members of the Diaspora found particular sections highlighted in this article as repugnant and distasteful.

Jamaica National Movement in New York Inc., is a vibrant community group which supports progressive organizations within the diaspora and in Jamaica.

Confirmed: OG.NR has received a release from Mattathias Schwartz, the writer of the New Yorker article "A Massacre in Jamaica". The New Yorker has released the full text of his investigation, which confirms U.S. assistance in the form of a surveillance plane during the Tivoli Gardens incursion by the Jamaican security forces. Mr. Schwartz stated that "it is a fact that the aircraft shot live video of Tivoli Gardens while the operation took place, and the fact that U.S. government presently has a copy of this video and is refusing to release it."
