A 13-year-old girl who was allegedly impregnated by another 13-year-old was turned away from the Victoria Jubilee Hospital's antenatal clinic on Tuesday, THE STAR has learnt.
Information reaching THE STAR is that the teenager who is about eight months pregnant, is carrying twins.
The teenager had reportedly gone to the antenatal clinic to book her January delivery date, when nurses refused to do so without a parent or a guardian being present.
"Bwoy di nurse dem really rough her up. And di way she shame, she never even answer di few questions dem dat di nurse dem ask her. Di nurse tell her to come back with her parents in front of around 50 people," a patient at the hospital told us.
When contacted, public relations officer for Southeast Regional Health Authority, Taneisha Lewis, said, "Firstly, the hospital's policy is that once a person is under the age of consent, which is 16 years old, that person must be accompanied by a parent or a guardian.
The parent or the guardian has to consent to certain treatments. In addition, Thursday is the designated day for teenagers at that clinic not Tuesday."
When asked if a matter like this would be brought to the attention of the police, Lewis said "A representative from the Family Court is at the hospital who would normally meet with the parents of a teenager in such a case and investigate the matter."
