Second political debate set for Thursday

The Jamaica Debates Commission has now turned its attention to the second National Political Debate.

The one-hour debate scheduled for Thursday December at 9 o’clock will feature the finance minister Audley Shaw and Dr Peter Phillips, the Opposition spokesman on finance.

The focus of the debate will be on finance and economic growth issues.

It will be moderated by attorney-at-law Derek Jones.

The questioners will be Dwayne Berbick of CVM Television, Damion Mitchell of The Gleaner/Power 106 News Centre and Al Edwards of the Jamaica Observer.

How can we have sustained economic growth , given our history of governmental corruption (triafuga & JDIP), is it prudent to keep having MPs resign and shuffled to cabinets , when it is alleged to cost the tax payer 50 to 60 % of GDP , what measures do we have in place to tackle this seeing that the DPP & OCG are at logger heads?

Follow up question do we need a special prosecutor for corruption and if yes when will it be implemented , if no, why not given our history ?

Of Note a USAID REPORT FOUND Without needed revenues, Jamaica cannot hope to manage its catastrophic debt re-servicing agreements and provide needed social services to its people at the same time. Political corruption thus directly causes the economic shortfalls Jamaica suffers from today.

Just a quick point X ....

Are you aware there is a Special Prosecutor Act that is before the Parliament? There are different views on the ACT therefore the talks have stalled.
