MINISTER of Industry, Investment and Commerce Christopher Tufton, has announced a major investment in Jamaica’s business process outsourcing sector.
The investment will create a thousand jobs when a call centre opens in Montego Bay next year.
This investment is part of the ministry’s efforts to double the number of persons employed in the industry, which now stands at 11,500.
The announcement was made this morning, at a press briefing called by the minister.
Jamaica is the destination for Convergys’ first call centre in the Caribbean. Convergys, which employs 70, 000 globally, is a leader in integrated billing and customer care services provided through outsourcing or licensing.
