Prime Minister and Jamaica Labour Party Leader, Andrew Holness has admitted that he gave erroneous information on the political platform on Sunday night in Mandeville, Manchester.

Mr. Holness who was on the campaign trail in Portland Monday night, conceded that he gave incorrect information about the economy when the JLP regained state power in 2007.

On Monday night, TVJ's Prime Time News burrowed into aspects of the Prime Minister's Sunday night speech in which assertions he made were factually tested to determine if the claims were truthful.

It turned out that on several counts, some of the Prime Minister's claims did not hold up to scrutiny. One of them was the country's exchange rate when the JLP was voted out of office in 1989 and the rate at which it was when the party was voted back into office four years ago.

A strident Prime Minister Holness had claimed that the dollar was J$5.00 to US$1.00 in 1989 and it ballooned to $90.00 in 2007 because of the fiscal mismanagement of the then Peoples National Party government.

On the political platform Monday night in Portland, Mr. Holness admitted to party faithfuls that he was wrong about the figures he provided the night before.

But in admitting that he was wrong, Mr. Holness said the people would not be too concerned about it.

“I make a little error. It should have been 70 instead of 90. The people don’t hang up on those things, because the people get the bigger point.”

Mr. Holness went on to tell JLP supporters that he, like everyone else deserved a second chance, but was not expecting the local media to report his retraction.

“I believe in giving people a second chance to prove themselves. I not going kill you because you make a one error. Truth means that you come back and say ah so it did fi go. They not going carry that. No, they not going to carry that. Can’t depend on them….can’t depend on them.” Mr. Holness told supporters at the rally.
