The People’s National Party (PNP) has moved to clarify that Douglas Thomas was never its candidate in the St. Catherine Central constituency.
The PNP said while Thomas, who has been accused of fraudulently taking money from several people, had applied to the party, he was never selected as a candidate for the upcoming general election.
However up to today, Thomas was listed as a candidate on the PNP's official website.
Thomas was taken into custody recently and has been charged with obtaining money by means of false pretence and fraudulent conversion.
He is expected to be brought to court on Tuesday.
Allegations are that Thomas reportedly took money from persons, who wanted to gain visas and overseas employment as part of the services his company Excell Job Link, located in Spanish Town, offers.
The investigating officer said more than 50 people have come to the station to make reports and are demanding their back money.
