  • Political parties agree on national debates

The People’s National Party (PNP) has identified Lisa Hanna, Raymond Pryce and Dr. Dayton Campbell as its representatives for the upcoming team debate as part of the political debates.
The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) says within the next two days it will announce its team.
This was disclosed on Friday morning as representatives of the two major political parties officially signed documents giving their commitment to participate in the upcoming political debates being staged by the Jamaica Debates Commission.
The JLP Deputy General Secretary Ian Murray signed on behalf of the ruling party while PNP Deputy General Secretary Julian Robinson signed on behalf of the opposition.
The two also signed off on the format for the team debate which will focus on social economic issues and the two one on one debates, involving the parties' leadership and Finance representatives.
Debates commission Chairman Gary Allen has indicated that the commission and the parties are now trying to fine tune the format for one of the debates which will take on a town hall format.
So far they have identified the two universities in the corporate area as possible venues for the debate.
Meanwhile, the studio of the CPTC has been identified as the location for the studio debate.
