There is more pressure on the governing party on Wednesday afternoon as the opposition People’s National Party (PNP) is calling for more answers from the Cabinet.
In a release, the PNP described Mike Henry's resignation as a belated response to what it labelled the scandalous conduct of the entire Government in relation to Jamaica Development Infrastructure Programme (JDIP).
The PNP's Spokesman on Finance, Planning and the Public Service, Dr. Peter Phillips asserted in a statement on Tuesday night that despite the promise by Prime Minister Andrew Holness to report to the country on the JDIP irregularities, nothing has been heard from him.
The PNP Finance Spokesman also pointed to what he said was Finance Minister Audley Shaw's efforts to keep the project off the budget, and as a result avoid Parliamentary scrutiny and circumvent the government's procurement rules.
And Opposition Spokesman on Transport and Works, Dr. Omar Davies has also declared that a thorough investigation is now required into JDIP's operations.
“The police have to be there and you have to have a thorough investigation by the Contractor General and the Auditor General rather than about specific elements. The terms of reference of the Auditor General were within the context of what Robert Pickersgill and I wrote to them but now it seems that every single aspect of the project and sub-project has to be investigated,” Dr. Davies said.
