Not too sure about that,the banks voicing objections to Peter Phillips proposal is driven by self interest,otherwise dawg woulda nyam we suppah.No evidence of this new found concern for JP wishes.
Bruce was supported by his tribe,he left but that tribe remains intact.
Seaga was pushed out(he is on the record sayong he chose to leave),that did not have the purging effect...
My guess is it is business as usual despite.....

There is no revolutionary change in unethical behaviour by politicians... but there is evidence that there is a definite change in the expectations of the public and also its ability to apply pressure to politicians via civic organizations, oversight groups and the press

These public pressures have clearly had the effect of inhibiting the worst excesses of JLPNP political malfeasance or hubris. This is an exhibition of Jamaica's increased political maturity.. since it's achieved without the usual rioting of the 1970s, 1980s & 1990s

When the cash tax is withdrawn tomorrow that will be another demonstration of this paradigm shift

Didn't say they have "never"... of course that exists. I said provide some evidence of undue influence on the judge. I will take the evidence under advisement

Well too bad 'it' did NOT prevent it from being proposed.
The meaningful opposition came from elsewhere,if Peter had proposed a flat rate then maybe the banks would have embraced...,entirely different results.
His proposal,as is,encourages large withdrawals and that is what is unacceptable to the banks.
The govt would have settled for less by giving the bank their share from the tax(the loot) itself,that is the compromise but in the end the banks remain concerned about large withdrawals resulting.That is the saviour.

It's not for me to say what tax is best but my point is to recognize the growing political maturity in Jamaica. It's remarkable that with all the hardships there is not the street mayhem we see in other stressed countries
