Willi...so mush info and misinfo floating around dont know what to believe these days. If it is true, then it has to be dealt with. A lot say it's possible justification to keep SOE going ie blogs etc.
It's a crazy time in TT right now.
Despite an alleged assassination plot against Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, president of the Banking Insurance and General Workers Union Vincent Cabrera says the state of emergency should be lifted. Cabrera pointed out that with only two weeks before the state of emergency was supposed to lifted, another alleged plot had been unveiled. While he believes that any alleged assassination plot against members of the Government should be taken seriously, the outspoken trade unionist says the People’s Partnership has a credibility problem.
He said the state of emergency was declared to avert a crisis which the Government had yet to be clear on. Cabrera observed that National Security Minister John Sandy had revealed to Parliament that the state of emergency was declared to avert a major crisis but this was disputed by Persad-Bissessar several days later. He told the T&T Guardian that the Government was now saying there is a plot, but they aren’t willing to give any hard evidence. He said he found this unsatisfactory.
“It is clear the trade union movement has nothing to do with a plot against the Prime Minister,” Cabrera said. “It is not a situation of armed insurrection...If its a plot, there are a few people to deal with. “We are calling for the lifting of the state of emergency to allow the trade unions to march and hold public meetings. “We see no reason for the state of emergency to be kept...It should be lifted.”
