A 25 per cent reduction in murder in the first 10 months of this year has helped the police to record an overall 19 per cent lowering of all major crimes.
In figures released today, the police high command reported that 952 people have been murdered across the island from January 1 to November 13.
That is 298 fewer than the number of persons murdered for the corresponding period last year.
Against that background, Deputy Commissioner of Police Glenmore Hinds said the number of cops on the streets will be increased for the Christmas period.
In the meantime, Assistant Commissioner of police, Ray Palmer, said the police are well prepared to offer adequate security for the upcoming general elections.
