In what was a very emotionally charged atmosphere, during a party he hosted to celebrate the 70th birthday party of his belle, Beverley Anderson-Manley, at their St Andrew home on Saturday night, Dr D.K. Duncan asked her to set a date for their nuptials.
At the end of a video montage extolling the virtues and lifelong achievements of his long-time companion, Duncan got on his knee in front of his children and those of his belle and their very close friends. And in a manner reminiscent of an era when chivalry reigned, he officially 'popped the question', asking the media doyenne and one-time political firebrand to be his wife in between serenading her with Lionel Ritchie's Endless Love.
And with everyone shouting, urging her to say yes, Anderson-Manley, dressed in a flowing beige ensemble, her dreadlocks up- swept in a beautiful chignon and looking as ageless as ever, replied with an emphatic, "Yes", to cheers and tumultuous applause.
And in what was a very moving few moments that brought many to tears, she then proceeded to serenade him with Have I Told You Lately (That I Love You), and as friends and family joined in the chorus, the couple melted away in their own world, the two dancing as only lovers do, to seal the engagement.
